I love having guests coming to visit me in Madrid but there is always a small amount of pressure to show them the most of what your city can offer, especially if it is their second visit. You want to show them exactly what makes you love living here so much without repeating the same great activities they experienced the last time they journeyed across. After a thorough brain storm thinking about the best places for a drink in Madrid I remembered a comment a friend had made to me about a rooftop terrace with reasonable drinks and the best views of Madrid. Terraza Círculo de Bellas Artes. There was no question about it that this was the perfect place to take 5 hungover revelers, 3 Scottish guys, an Irish guy and myself for a hangover Sunday slumber
Entry up to the rooftop cost a fairly reasonable €3. On the 7th floor of a grand building situated on the main shopping street of Madrid, Gran Via, this terraza was placed right in the heart of downtown Madrid. The 7 floor lift ride to the top was slightly ropey. I felt like I had stepped out into the midday sunshine of Dubai and it happened to be one of the slowest lifts I have been in…after 5 minutes we made it to the top. WOW. We were in for a treat. The views at the top were absolutely breath-taking. We hungover revellers were treated to a panoramic view of Madrid (that almost cured the hangovers there and then) and it stretched for miles on this sunny autumn day.
We chose our perfect spot. A grassy area with cushions that allowed you to pan out in the afternoon sunshine. With a drink in hand we were well and truly sorted for the foreseeable hour or 2. The drinks were relatively well priced considering the location. A beer will set you back €4, a soft drink €3 and a cocktail or spirt will cost you around €8/10. Absolutely delighted with the find (disappointed it wasn’t sooner) I settled down for a bask in the sun. The perfect hangover cure. A great location with great company. This is a must go destination when living in or visiting Madrid.
